So he’s studying to be a programmer, that explains the whole C++ thing a couple pages ago. Although, most non-game-dev business look for proficiency in javascript + its frameworks, php, and C# or java. Still, a lot of schools teach C++ by default

C# is still fairly new. Most programs are written in C++ still. Java scripting is ok for pc/Macs that can run java, but most mobile platforms do not support java. I have known a few coders, and most preferr to code in the various C languages. Better stability and control than JavaScript. That was their words in a nut shell. Personally, I am a graphic designer, not a coder. So I do not have much experience with programming.
Unity runs both C# and Javascript.
However, knowledge of c++, though not directly useful to game programming, is important to programming in general. It could be the c++ classes are a general programming field before the gaming ones; teach object oriented code and programming before teaching interactivity as it were.
Java and Javascript are two completely different things. One is a language not unlike C++, and is used to write desktop applications and embedded systems. While Javascript is used almost exclusively for interactive content on websites.
