No, client-side, these programs are not required as the images can be loaded on all if not most browsers and the animations also, these programs are only really if you want to produce your own art. Plus these do cost around £15-20 or $20-25 ish.

People, I happened to jump to the page that has the WordPress version info. I think it said that WordPress 2.81 is available. Please update to it, Please! WordPress has had a number vulnerabilities to hacking found. You’ve really got to be on top of your updates to avoid nasties hacking the site!

Any chance of using MP4 codec as well? I’m having all sorts of trouble with Flash, in that everytime I try to load it, it just screws up.
I do post animations in MP4 as well.
