“Physically and scientifically impossible”?
Um, so this is set 2000 years into the future with high technology, yes? Like…surely the technology of transitioning trans people that existed since at least the 1950s wasn’t just lost to time. Obviously the “1950s technology” of taking estrogen supplements takes years, and breast implants would take hours, but “physically and scientifically impossible”? Seems pretty possible, just…fast.
Yeah, that statement is kinda weird, then again, as of Star Trek Discovery season 4 (its in the 30th century now), the Federation are still crybabies when it comes to synthetic lifeforms/AI.
I don’t think it’s weird at all. I think Angel has an acceptable reaction to see that Rookie has suddenly transformed into a woman, when he was a man less than an hour ago. If I hung out with a male friend one day and then the very next day they had been fully transformed into a woman, I’d be shocked and confused like Angel too, because the gender transition process is not that quick.
I would figure the opposite, but sci-fi stories always reflect the usage in tech of today.
We don’t have tech to insta-transition, so why would they?
They’re not saying it’s “physically and scientifically impossible” for a man to transition into a woman. In universe, the last time Angel saw Rookie was roughly less than an hour ago and he was fully a man with no noticeable female traits. And in that hour, Rookie transformed into a woman. That is the “physically and scientifically impossible” part. Not that a man can transition into a woman, but that a man can fully transition into a woman in less than an hour. This isn’t a matter of opinion. It’s a fact that they aren’t saying it’s impossible for a man to transition into a woman, only that it is impossible for that happen so quickly.
Well, that’s your opinion. Anything can happen in fiction. Its very possible in fiction to technology change your physical sex in mere moments. Just because a character said, doesn’t mean we can’t at least question why technology regarding changing genders haven’t evolved past 2021-AD tech. I would think so too, considering humans are in spaces with some the most advance tech in story.
They should probably arm themselves with flame throwers, if they have those in the future.
Or just laser blasters that function as flame throwers instead?
