What have the quarantine-enforcers (police and military) been told they are containing? It’s hard to imagine shooting fellow Amaericans to contain a ‘stomach flu’. I think the first place the imagaination will go is that this is something Ebola like, which is definitely worth using violence to contain. But how long can they not see any evidence of the infection before the willingness wais? Why would they use the local police?! WHY?! That’s a TERRIBLE idea! Send in the national guard! Lock down the bridge, and surround the island with the coast guard and navy! This is America! The one thing, the ONE THING America has, is plenty of military money and resources! That is literally the ONLY THING America is best at! Come on!

The local police have the advantage of being local, and generally more veteran than the nearly juvenile military. How many marines do you think it would take to occupy new york if 35000 police force actively opposed them? Without air support I’d wouldn’t want to take that battle on without at least a 2 to 1 advantage. Consider the flexibility on New York’s police and fire departments shown on 9/11. The perfectly executed their mass casualties plan despite the fact that the co-ordinating office for emergencies was in the World Trade Center. One major issue once the military came in the local police department would be on Donuts and coffee runs.
That’s all they are good for. Local police like this are there to deal with shop lifting and speeding tickets. They aren’t capable or trained to handle something like this.
