Good guess. Though, I don’t understand why a teenager would be illogical and angst-y about admitting that they’re dating their friend. I guess it might be an issue for Sandra and Natalie, since they’re both girls and this comic takes place in the late 90s. So admitting that they’re dating their friend would also mean having to come out of the closet during a time where LGBTQ+ acceptance wasn’t as widespread as it is today. I kind of get why Zoey and Gavin would hide their relationship, but why were Sandra and Natalie hiding their relationship. It was Gavin and Zoey who suggested to Sandra/Shane that she/he ask out Natalie in the first place, with Zoey even saying to Sandra/Shane that Natalie likes Sandra/Shane.
So not only does it seem pointless for Sandra and Natalie to hide their relationship, but it also seems like Gavin and Zoey should have already known that Sandra and Natalie were dating.
