I just read the story back and they said the closest payphone was down the slope and they obv don’t have cell phones because story is set in 1997 . in the last few pages, all characters were present meaning none left to go call the authorities,

OK, so we’re up to almost Page 300, and no discussion about any tie-ins with the ghosts, the blood demon from the pond, or how the infections magically change infected’s clothes.
