O.K. I do like the story. But I would trade in some character development for some sort of revelation concerning wth is going on here. Is there a deus ex machina moment ahead? Are the people of Cinder Isle in the midst of some sort of naturalistic mutation or maybe the victims/recipients of magic ill-formed and inappropriately dealt with through out ages? Yeah, we know. There was a foul-up in the program we use to make the comic, and fixing it has been, let’s ay, less than straightforward. Hopefully it’ll be fixed soon.
Now I’m thinking that instead of just making up for lost time, someone just superglued Zack/Zoey’s Cloak of Invisibility to him and he can’t get it off. Luckily for him it seems to be on the fritz.

Bailey Island
I think Bailey island would be a good chose. The history behind Bailey island, it was a boom and bust type of town, with its glory days behind it. that would explain the school, hospital, and the mall.
