so the teacher is going to tell her students her origin story huh. now this is going to get verry interesting in more ways than one.
I apologize if I came off as angry in my previous comments, but I stand by my opinion. What this teacher did was cruel humiliation and I’m not going to forgive that just because she’s got a nice figure!
But that said, if I didn’t like the comic I wouldn’t be reading it and taking the time to talk about it.
Do you think this isn’t extremely common in high schools throughout the country? Teachers do that all the time.
Doesn’t make it any less wrong. I had a teacher pull something like this 40 years ago. She got fired over it. I never said anything. The rest of the class took it up with the dean behind my back. I just heard about it later. Similar happened to me again at another school a couple years later. That was an accusation of academic dishonesty. Shut that one down too. Proved my case very nicely by taking a retest getting a perfect grade not even bothering to review my notes.
Many very very common things are extremely harmful and wrong. Being common doesn’t make something okay. Lies, abuse, literal rape and murder, are all common things. By your comparison, that makes it okay to do that. Maybe I made it sound like this scene shouldn’t be in the comic, that’s not what I mean. I want something that calls out how cruel it is. I would have loved it if one of the girls who was born as a girl stood up and called this teacher out. She could have stood up and said something like “Hold on, I can’t… Read more »
Is it just me or does she look bigger than scarlet young?
Look at the profile pictures. I’d say no from them. Mrs. M just droops more.
That’s it? No one is gonna call out this disgrace of a teacher for her outrageous question to a student?! I hope the class is completely out of control, I home they make her life a living hell. She deserves it. And I say that as a teacher myself! What she did last page was beyond inappropriate for a teacher to ask of a student! Students ask rude things all the time, they are children and teenagers, a teacher is an adult in a position of authority. If a student asks a rude or inappropriate question, you either don’t even… Read more »
or* not “of”. I wish we could edit these comments.
You really need to chill it is not that big a deal.
Suspend your disbelief for your fictional online comic where magical blue fox statues turn people into women.
I don’t need to chill or suspend anything. Sam is a better writer than this and has shown it time after time. This is a bad scene and I don’t like it.
What Mrs. Machias did to Zoey isn’t any less egregious than what most high school teachers do, especially during the 90s. Zoey wouldn’t stop talking despite her conversation being a private matter and being surrounded by her classmates, so what Mrs. Machias did makes sense as a punishment for Zoey. Now she, and her classmates, will think twice about talking over the teacher and not paying attention to the lesson. As a teacher, you have to keep order in the classroom, and Zoey was threatening that order by constantly talking. Not to mention, Zoey describing her first period to the… Read more »
That is nonsense Paul. What Machias did is massively out of line. What she did was humiliate Zoey in front of all of her peers for the extremely minor offense of chatting in class. It is not as though Zoey was warned several times to be quiet and continued to talk, disregarding the teacher’s orders. The way she should have handled this, is upon hearing what Zoey said, she should have said something along the lines of “Since you’ve experienced it, then it is all the more important for you to pay attention to this lesson. Do not disrupt this… Read more »
I’ve seen plenty of teachers humiliate students before. Sometimes kids need to be humiliated, because they learn from that humiliation. It gets the rowdy students to settle down and behave, while making them an example of how not to act in class to the other students. If what Mrs. Machias said is to be believed, Zoey and Gavin had been whispering during the entire class, carrying a whole private conversation. If you’re carrying a conversation when someone else is talking, then clearly you’re not paying attention to what they’re saying. And that is very disrespectful to the teacher and is… Read more »
“Sometimes kids need to be humiliated” ??? I cannot believe you said that. We are done here. I am done speaking with you.
They need.to learn how to deal with humiliation. It doesn’t kill you! Depending on your personality and “life experiences” (hate that term), like previous attempts to humiliate you, you might have a come back. “Is that similar to your experience Mrs. Machias?”. She’s only been a woman for two weeks, so probably not and that’s embarrassing for her to admit. It’s a gamble, you get extra info on how periods vary between women or Zoey and Mrs. M are even. Of course, humiliating a teacher can have nasty consequences on your grade.
This is the twilight zone, that talks world with the myth and magic, as the story teller recant his story into starry night, watching ember as they float off into the night sky. If you want the perfect world, buy the novel.
The tables have turned.
Nice to see the Mrs. Machias and Zoey get even.
Not even close to even, teachers have the power to deflect and ignore rude questions like this. Zoey, as a student does not. A person in a position of authority abused that authority and humiliated her in front of the entire class. This scumbag of a teacher should have her life ruined. No student should respect her. Everyone should talk in class, make a mess, play pranks on her and it should only end when either she quits, or more appropriately, she is FIRED.
How would the teacher know what Zoey was talking about?? From the teacher’s perspective Zoewy and gavin could have been talking about random stuff like what they were going to have for dinner. If what Zoey said was going to embarrass her then she should have spoken up and said “I’m Sorry for talking, Mrs Machias, but what I was talking about is personal can I talk to you after class”
You mean asking about Mrs. M’s infection? That was another girl, not Zoey. I would have appreciated it if it was Zoey. Sadly, conversations can be a battlefield.
Safe sex, lead by example.
Paybacks a construct
well at least the teacher is fair and even when it comes to dishing out embarrassment
Not remotely fair. A student doesn’t get to deflect, a teacher can. What she did to Zoey is almost as bad as an executive asking his secretary about her sex life. There is the implied punishment if you don’t answer the question if you are the student or the secretary. It is COERCION!
A student can get into big trouble by refusing to answer, a secretary can get fired. Those are still things you can do. The more unjust the retaliation to a reusal is, the more likely people will help you, that is, if they know about it. That’s why I like cell phones. They can video or record audio surreptitiously.
I suppose those are points I hadn’t considered Ha55caps and MtnMan, I just thought that it seemed fair that the teacher was willing to embarrass herself after embassing Zoey. tit for tat. though arguments could be made for its in appropriate. it just didn’t seem ‘that bad’ at least to me
